Acupuncture

Acupuncture, simply stated, is a health science that is used to successfully treat both pain and dysfunction in the body. Acupuncture is an ancient therapy developed in China. Early Chinese physicians discovered there is an energy network traversing just below the surface of the skin which communicates from the exterior to the internal organs and structures over 1,000 Acupuncture points on the body. Their work is based on the belief that all energy - or qi - flows through the body along particular paths. To feel well, qi must flow harmoniously. This energy works in harmony with the body's circulatory, nervous, muscular, digestive, genitourinary, and all other systems of the body.

When this vital energy becomes blocked or weakened, an effect in a body system or anatomic location becomes evident, and pain can start.  Stimulation of one or a combination of key acupuncture points on the body may restore harmony to the affected area.

To restore balance, acupuncturists stimulate specific points along the body's energy pathways by inserting fine needles into the skin. There are over 1000 acupuncture points that connect with 12 main pathways that conduct energy between the body's surface and organs. Stimulating these points may affect the chemical messengers in the body, called neurotransmitters.

The number of treatments varies with different conditions and individuals. Chronic problems generally require more treatment than acute ones. Some patients notice an immediate improvement after the first treatment, whereas others many not notice any effect until the seventh or eighth visit. It's been shown that a certain percentage of patients receive maximum benefit up to three months following a course of therapy. A small number of patients will receive a worsening of symptoms, as the body's energies are returning to normal. This is usual and no need for alarm, and is followed by improvement. The usual frequency is between two and four treatments a week, with the average number of visits being in the range of 8-12 visits.

Testimonials

  • "I have had back issues since the birth of my second child. I would have low back pain which would make it hard to bend until the pain subsided. Over the years I would have flare-ups and have been seen by different chiropractors. There was never a correction to the problem that was long-lived. In the summer of 2007, I had been doing yard work, and the pain in my low back and down the back of my leg became intense. For days the pain only got worse. My sister was seeing Dr. Martini and had nothing but good things to say about him. I made an appointment. I was seen every week until the pain was under control. I would then see him once a month to keep my back in alignment, and should I have an episode of Sciatica we would go back through this process. Dr. Martini could just put his hands on my back and hip and know exactly where the pain was being generated. He would give me acupuncture, adjustments, and laser therapy for my Sciatic nerve pain. I trust him completely and he has always shown such care and compassion in how I felt. His care and concern sets him apart from others."

  • "For over 20 years I had suffered from low back and left shoulder pain. Doctors wanted me to have surgery to put pins in my back. I told them that I would try chiropractic first and they all told me chiropractic was not good. I proved them wrong. I have been seeing Dr. Martini for over 12 years now and I feel so much better. Chiropractic brought immediate relief to my back and acupuncture gave me quick results for shoulder pain. Now when I can't move freely, it's time to see Dr. Martini."

  • "I had been trying to get pregnant for 26 months.  My husband and I had done all of the fertility testings and everything was normal.  For over 2 years I had been trying to conceive a child with no such luck. We also had during the time built a house and just kept postponing treatment.  I was at the point of needing to seek treatment from a fertility specialist.  Our whole was centered around trying to have a family.  I had a friend who worked for Dr. Martini a few years ago and I started seeing him for chiropractic adjustments for back and neck realignment.  I started acupuncture therapy with Dr. Martini in May 2008.  I had treatments 3 times a week for 4 weeks and at the end of the first month of acupuncture, I was Pregnant!  I continued treatment once a week until my 10th week of pregnancy.  On January 28, 2009, I delivered Holly Katherine.  She is a healthy, happy baby who brings joy to our lives!  We could never thank Dr. Martini enough for helping make our life and home complete!"
